Arthur Shattuck, son of Kimberly-Clark co-founder F.C. Shattuck, was sent to Europe to study piano in 1894 at age 13. He became a student of the famed Leschetizky School in Vienna and made his European debut in 1902 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Copenhagen. He was only 21 years old.
The following year he established a permanent residence in Paris. The city was at that time also home to such luminaries as Debussy, Saint Saëns, and Ravel among others. Touring both Europe and the United States, Shattuck also performed for President and Mrs. Taft at the White House. He even arranged and played at several benefit concerts in Neenah with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his public concerts, Shattuck gave command performances for the Royal family of Sweden and the Queen of Rumania. He was also a regular guest in some of the great houses of Great Britain and the continent.
